What Would Happen If I Returned To Work?

Hello Larry: I am a 60 year old woman (DOB 7/17/1957), who is currently collecting Social Security Disability. I am also collecting benefits on my former employers long-term disability insurance policy. These private insurance benefits end when I am 65. During most of my previous employment, I worked for the government and therefore did not contribute to SS. Unfortunately, I became disabled before I was vested in the State pension system, so I have no pension benefits.

I am divorced and had been married 18 years. My former spouse, (DOB 12/21/1957). I think, will have a . . . Read More

How Do I Track What My Age 70 Benefit Will Be?

I have filed a restricted application for spousal benefits and it has been approved, however at My Social Security, the amount I would receive at age 70 is no longer available, instead it states that "you are receiving benefits". How do I now track what my age 70 benefit will be?

Thanks!

Hi,

You could use our software, or you could try calling or visiting a Social Security office.

Am I Correct Or Do I Not Understand Social Security's Rules?

I'm 63 plan on retiring in Jun. I want to collect Social security starting in April so I will have 2 social security payments before actually retiring. I read that once you retire your income up to the month you retire will not count against your limit of $17,000.00. So if I earn $6,000.00 from my primary job for the 2 months I keep working APR, MAY and retire on Jun 2nd and the prorated amount of the $17k I can earn from Jun-Dec is about $1416.67 * 7=$9,916.67. So the additional $6,000.00 collected will not exceed the $9,9916.67 for 2018 I will not have any social security . . . Read More

Can I Arrange For A Consultation With Someone To Advise Me About Disability Benefits And My Business?

I’m 30 years old and. I was born with severe to profound hearing loss in both ears and recently got a cochlear implant surgery this past year.

Just a quick note, my mother did receive ssi for me as a child. The reason I am reaching out to you today I am seeking for a trust worthy organization or individual who can advise me on some of these decisions I have to make and questions I have for my . . . Can Anyone Tell Me For Sure When They Recalculate Delayed Retirement Credits?

Can anyone tell me for sure when they definately recalculate delayed retirement benefits? Is it each January or every other year in January? Why isn't there a form letter sent to the people that will be getting delayed retirement credits explaining exactly when they are recalculated and when the people will be receiving the adjusted benefit? Thank you

Hi,

No, not exactly. Recomputations to include partial year delayed retirement credits (DRC) are effective with payments due for the following January, but the actual process for performing the . . . Read More

How Much Would My Wife Get If She Starts Drawing Widow's Benefits At Age 63?

I was born in Nov 1952. My wife was born in May 1960.
I plan to claim social sec benefits at the age of 70 based on my earnings and expect to collect about $40,000 per year. If I die at the age of 71, my wife will be 63 years old at the time of my death. My wife income is much less. In this scenario, what will be my wife's survival benefits if she claims at her age of 63?

Hi,

Your wife's unreduced widow's benefit in the scenario you present would be equal to your full benefit rate including the DRCs you earn by waiting past full retirement age . . . Read More

My husband collects SS. I will be 66 in Sept and want to take spousal benefits. I know I will get 50% of his PIA, but does that include COLA's that were given this year? I know it does not include DRC's that my husband receives. Thanks you all your help

Is There Any Way I Can Keep My Current Healthcare Coverage And Get Social Security Benefits?

I'm 65, will turn 66 in six month, am still working and plan to comtimue. I woulf like to keep the health cate provided by my employer -- a high deductible policy with employer donations to my HSA. I also would like to increase my meager sacings by applying for my late husband's social security benefits, which are less than mine, and put off claiming my own benefits until I quit woking. But social security tells me that to get spousal benefits I have to apply for Medicare and neither I nor my employer can contribute to my HSA. My employer also is not allowed to pay for the cost . . . Read More

Hi,

I'm sorry but I can't really give you a good answer without more information. I'm guessing that the money Social Security is taking out of your monthly payments is your Medicare premiums. Unless you also have Medicaid and your state is paying your Part B premiums, then the withholding is likely correct. . . . Read More

Can I File For My Deceased Husband's Social Security Benefits?

I will be turning 60 in October of this year. At the age of 58 , I became disabled & am receiving a very small portion of my deceased husband’s benefits along with my own disability benefits. As I am sure he made more money than me, can I file for his social security benefits? And, if so, when should I apply & would I receive more than I am receiving now on his SS benefits? How can I receive a statement of benefits on my deceased spouse?

Hi,

It sounds like you're already receiving disabled widow's benefits (DWB), so you're probably already . . . Read More
