2021, started collecting retirement benefits. However, I exceeded income and monthly maximum limits. I started at 63 February
What happens now that I e exceeded both limitations? I cannot withdraw my application as it is more than a year

Hi. Given you description, if none of your benefits were withheld last year then you were overpaid. Once Social Security finds out that you earned too much, they'll notify you of the overpayment and propose suspending your benefits for as long as it takes to recover the overpayment. Am I Eligible To Receive COLA Payments?

I'm 62 I'm recieving my husband's death benefits. An wounder if I'm eligible to receive cola payments?

Hi. To clarify, cost of living adjustments (COLA) aren't separate payments. But, if you're drawing Social Security survivor benefits then your benefit rate will be increased by the percentages of any future Social Security COLA increases. Social Security COLAs apply to all types of Social Security payments, including survivor benefits.

How Can I Secure My U.S. Social Security So It Doesn't Get Reduced?

As a dual national through marriage for 2/3 of my life and working overseas and living In Europe, what must I do to secure my US social security so it does not get reduced?

Hi. Being a dual national wouldn't adversely affect your U.S. Social Security benefits, but if you collect a pension based on your work in a foreign country then your U.S. Social Security retirement or disability benefits could be lowered due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). If you have at least 30 years of substantial U.S. Social Security covered earnings, then you would . . . Read More

Hello Professor Kotlikoff,

You are recognized as an expert in Social Security, and I intend to order your book on this subject and have a question for you that I am hoping you will answer :

I read that I do indeed meet the requirements and am eligible to apply for receiving Social Security benefits as a surviving divorced spouse when I reach FRA . Sadly, my ex wife passed away prior to age 62, and so she did not begin receiving SS benefits.
