Will My Annuity Be Cut Off When I'm Able To Claim My Social Security?

I am currently receiving my Deceased Fathers retirement benefits. Actually it's an Annuity. I'm 60 yrs old and want to know if that is going to be cut off when I am able to claim my Social Security or will it roll over?

Hi,

You can't receive Social Security benefits based on a parent's work record unless you are disabled from an impairment that became disabling prior to age 22. If you're drawing an annuity from your father's pension program or insurance policy outside of Social Security, that wouldn't affect any type of Social Security benefits for which you may qualify. However, I can't tell you whether or not drawing Social Security benefits would affect your annuity. That would depend on the provisions of your annuity. You'll probably need to direct your question to the company or agency that administers the annuity.

Best, Jerry
