Will I Lose Some Of My Social Security If I Get Married?

Hi I'm 68 my fiance is 67 if we go ahead and get married will I loose some of my social security to him he gets about half of what I get.

Hi. I assume you mean that you receive Social Security retirement benefits based on your own earnings history. In that case the answer is no, getting married wouldn't have any adverse effect on your benefits.

Furthermore, if your new spouse's primary insurance amount (PIA) is less than 50% of your PIA, then he may be able to qualify for spousal benefits if you marry. A person's PIA is equal to their Social Security retirement benefit rate if they start drawing their benefits at full retirement age (FRA). Even if he does qualify for spousal benefits, though, that wouldn't reduce your benefit amount.

Best, Jerry
