Will I Be Able To Keep My Disability Check If I Remarry?

Larry, I draw widows disability from my late husband. I am 62 years old and I am wanting to get married. I’m wondering will I be able to keep my disability check if I remarry? My finance also draws a disability check to. Will we both be able to continue to receive our checks if we marry? My finance is 61 years old. Could you please inform me? Thanks so much, Rhonda

Hi Rhonda. Yes, if you get married after reaching age 60, you can still continue to receive widow's benefits on a deceased former spouse's record. And, assuming that you're fiancé is receiving either Social Security disability (SSDI) or widower benefits, getting married won't have any adverse effect on his benefits either.

Best, Jerry
