Widow's Benefits

Can I Still Be Eligible For Widow's Benefits If I Subsequently Remarried And Divorced?

My husband of 14 years passed away. I remarried at age 5,7 but the remarriage ended in divorce. Am I still eligible to receive widows benefit from my deceased husband?

Hi,

Yes, if you are now unmarried you could potentially draw widow's benefits on your deceased husband's record. However, you must also meet the other requirements for entitlement, which can be found in Social Security's handbook: https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0401.html.

How Can This Be?

I am 60, I applied for widows benefits was denied because I am still working and they said I made to much money. Yet a co worker of mine is age 64, and she applied for Widows benefits and get was told the same but they accepted her application and she got small checks every now and then. Now she is 62, her husband would have been 66 and she is now receiving his full benefits + she is working full time - how can that be?

How Much Should I Be Getting?

I am a widow age 87 Am I supposed to collect 100% of my husbands social security?
His gross in the year he died is $2000.00 more that mine is . How can this be corrected I can not figure out how they arrived at this figure

Hi,

The surviving member of a couple generally gets the higher of their 2 benefit rates, however, the rate could vary somewhat if either the deceased or the surviving spouse started drawing benefits before full retirement age.

When Can I Get Widow's Benefits?

Im 48 and I lost my late hubby 5 yrs ago ..I get his retirement but when and what age can I get widower benefits

Hi,

I'm sorry for your loss.

Social Security widow(er)'s benefits can be paid as early as age 60, or age 50 if the widow(er) is disabled. However, to get full widow(er)'s benefits you would need to wait until your full retirement age, which is 67 in your case.

Best, Jerry

How Can I Figure Out What My Widow's Benefit Would Be?

If I know how much Social Security Disability my spouse was receiving when he died, how would I figure out what my widow's benefit would be?
His disability checks were $920 per month.
He died in September 2015 at the age of 53.
We were married for over ten years when he died.
I am currently 53.
How would I figure out what my widow's benefit would be at age 60? (the earliest I could claim)

Can I Apply For Survivor Benefits At Age 60?

I have read through a lot of the social security rules and statues but my situation is still unclear according to what I've read. I need your help. I became a widow at age 39 in 1998. My husband was 49 when he passed with terminal cancer and had been receiving social security. He qualified for a medical retirement with his job of 25 years and we received his full pension 7 months before his passing. The social security continued for our children until they dropped off at age 18.
