Hi. My mom was wondering about her social security benefits and my dads. My dad is 91 and is currently being treated by hospice. She was wondering if they received my dads social security check at the 1st of december and he passes away in the same month, will social security take back my dads benefits?

I am presently seventy years old. I remarried about six years ago to a man twelve yrs younger than myself. I never thought to notify soc sec which I had been collecting since I turned retirement age. My I have my husbands last name on marriage certificate but use my previous last name from previous marriage because of it is easier than to change on all my previous bank statements etc which the bank told me was fine.. will I be penalized from soc sec because I just never reported this marriage because I just did not honestly think of it

I turn 66 before the end of the month. My sister had me all excited about the apply and suspend rules, now I see that ship has sailed even before I was thinking about boarding. My husband is already collecting but a lower rate than I will qualify for. I hope to work until 70, but still wondering if there is anything I can collect now to increase my earnings. I did just order your book, but am concerned it is outdated already. Do you have plans to have any type of supplement for those of us that bought a book that is now, or soon going to be outdated?

We became legal guardians of our Grandson in 2004, when we lost our daughter, and received Social Security monthly payments for him, until he graduated HS in 2016. As we are now 65 & 70....can no longer work and are on a fixed income. (We both get Social Security & I receive a Teacher's Pension), we are struggling financially. Whereas our Grandson had financial aide his first year in college. BECAUSE his average fell, they would not pay out on his Fall Semester (2017) tuition bill. As Louis was struggling academically, we told him to withdraw from classes.

When the SSA is made aware of the death of a person receiving a SS benefit, do they as a matter of policy notify persons that would be eligible for a survivor's benefit? If yes, would their failure to do so likely form the basis for a successful "Mis-information Application" to recover more than 6 months in arrears survivor's benefit?

My husband and I have an age difference of about 22 years. At one point I was getting young mothers benefits and we were getting benefits for our kids as well. I recall that my husbands benefit decreased during this time period. Since we are no longer getting the other benefits as our kids are now adults, shouldn't my husbands monthly benefit have increased?

No. Social Security can only garnish a person's Social Security benefits in order to pay for child support if they receive a court order to that effect.
