Would It Be Better For Me To Get To 40 SS Credits Or Stay Below That And Get A Totalization Benefit?

Hello Larry,
I worked in the US for 9 years as a teacher and have 40 Medicare credits but only 36 SS credits (taught one year in CA). I am moving permanently back to the US soon. I receive a Canadian teacher pension and will also get CPP in two years. I don’t plan to work more than small part time hours at the most in the US if at all. Would it be better for me to top up to the 40 SS credits and be subject to WEP or stay at 36 credits and get prorated SS payments with totalization. Thank you for your help.

How Much Back Pay Will I Get?

When I get approved for SSA survivers benefits how much back pay will I get?

Hi. That would depend on when you applied for benefits, your first month of benefit entitlement, when your claim is processed, and your monthly benefit rate(s). Since I have no way of knowing any of those things, I can't answer your question.

Hi. There isn't enough information in your question for me to be able to give you any advice. You may want to contact Social Security and the Social Services office in your area to find out if your family qualifies for any type of assistance.

i am 69 myears old.i receive social secuity. iI also coleect worker comp disabailty. If i take alum sum settlement with workers comp. Will that money effect ss benfits

Hi. No. Since you are over full retirement age (FRA), Workers Compensation (WC) benefits wouldn't affect your Social Security benefits regardless of whether the WC is paid periodically or in a lump sum.

Is There A Company That Could Monitor My Husband's Social Security Number And Alert Me When He Dies?

My husband who is 78 and lives in AZ. His son has a power of attorney both general and medical. I live in Maine. I have a life insurance policy on my husband. His son would not tell me if my husband dies. Is there a company who could monitor his Social Security number to be alerted of his death and order a death certificate?

How Do I Get My Ex-Husband's SSN?

I am filling out a registration form for updating my SSI benefits. I need to change the benefits using my Social Security instead of my ex-husband Social Security. To do this you are requiring me to have my ex-husband Social Security number which I don’t have. How do I get that?

Hi. Just to clarify, our website is not in any way connected with the Social Security Administration, so we aren't requiring you to do anything.
