Should I File For And Suspend My Benefits Or Just Wait And File At Age 70?

My birthdate is 7/29/51. I would like to retire from my part-time job this year, but am considering staying on. My husband will not reach FRA until 3/31/2021. My income varies between $23-26K annually. My husband's annual income varies between $90-&120K annually. If I continue to work, should I file for my retirement and suspend payment until age 70? Or should I just wait and file at 70. Also, though I am loath to admit it, my health is not brilliant, which is why I may have to stop working earlier than I had hoped.

Any suggestions?

What Should I Do Now?

I'm 67 (1-30-50)and when I met with someone in the SS office late last year to file and suspend they said since I was going to file and suspend don't bother filing until I turned 70. My wife will be 65 this Nov. and is still working. What should I do now that I just realized that I had until April to file. Another person suggested that my wife file and suspend now and for me to take 1/2 the benefits and still not file.

Is This The Best Claiming Strategy For My Husband And Me?

My husband turned 66 in November 2016 (he is grandparented in under the new law), and I am 63 (turned 62 in March 2016 - I am subject to deeming). Neither of us have filed for any Social Security benefits yet. My husband (the higher earner) wants to wait until age 70 to file, but is hoping to find a couple's claiming strategy that will 1) maximize our household's total lifetime benefits AND 2) bring in some kind of immediate auxiliary benefits to augment our extremely tight budget and tide us over until he claims at 70.

Can My Wife File For Reduced Retirement Benefits And Then Suspend Her Benefits At Full Retirement Age?

My wife is 63 (I am 62) and neither of us are currently working other than small part time opportunities. We are looking at having her apply for her benefit (basically to cover our health care premiums) and have read an article that suggested that she could apply for her benefit at the reduced rate and then when she reaches her full retirement age of 66 she could suspend her benefit and receive the delayed retirement credits on her reduced amount.

Can My Husband Get Spousal Benefits And Allow His Own Benefits To Grow Until Age 70?

I am 66 1/2 and plan to take social security when I turn 70. By husband will be 67 1/2 when I turn 70. I was recently told at a retirement planning workshop that if my husband takes spousal support when I turn 70, he will not be able to convert this to his maximum social security benefit when he turns 70. If he waits until he turns 70 to take his maximum benefit, it will be higher than mine because his income has been higher for most of our marriage.

Can I File For Spousal Benefits Now Without Also Filing For My Own Benefits?

My wife and I are both age 63 (born in Nov 1953), and my wife is receiving her early benefits. Can I file for spousal benefits only, without being deemed (forced) to receive my benefits? I want only to receive spousal benefits, till I reach my FRA and then claim my benefits. If able to receive spousal benefits, does this affect my FRA benefits?

Is My Math Accurate?

I will be 66 in July 2017, and my husband just turned 64. He has made much more than me. If he filed for SS early and I filed for spousal benefits rather than my own, half of his benefits would give me $1,079/mo (versus the $1,053/mo I’d get with my own benefits), according to SS numbers. In addition, my benefits would build until I was 70.

Would Filing On Her Own Record At Age 62 Affect On What My Wife Will Receive When I File?

Larry, Our plan is for my wife to take SS early at 62 and for me to take SS at 70.
Will this have any financial impact on the amount my spouse receives starting at 70 with a spousal benefit? And our combined Social Security.
I have run the software and it appears there is a difference. I am trying to understand why.
Would there be a financial benefit for her to wait till FRA?
Thanks
