Disability Benefits

Can I Collect Early From My Spouse's Record If I'm Disabled?

I had almost 10 years in the state police before I was injured on duty. Even though my doctor's all said I permanently disabled (TBI) the state took away my comp, etc. Because we didn't pay into SS, I am literally 1 credit short. I have tried twice and been turned down. My wife and I are seperated and have been married 12 years. She is 62, I am 48. Can I collect early from her? Thanks

Will My Benefit Amount Readjust Automatically At FRA?

Hi Larry,
I have a unique situation I have not seen discussed. I have collected SSDI benefits for 28 years. The last 15 years I have been working part-time strictly adhering to the Social Security work rules, $ amount per month etc. My FRA is 66 and 4 months, 2 years away. Will my benefit amount re-adjust automatically at FRA since some of my earnings cover the highest 35 years or will it continue to remain the same amount?
Thanks, Patrick

If My Wife And I Currently Receive SSDI Benefits Does That Preclude Us From Receiving Social Security Retirement Benefits In The Future?

Hi, I have searched and cannot find an answer, if my wife and I both currently receive Ssdi benefits does that preclude her I or both from receiving retirement benefits in the future? I am 52 and she is 53, we have both worked full time since 1986. Thank you

Will My Disability Benefit Amount Go Up In September?

I am on dissability and I want to know if it will go up in Sept 2020 when I will be 61 9months? Thank you

Hi,

Your disability benefit rate won't increase simply because you reach age 61 & 9 months or at any other age. Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits are calculated at 100% of a person's primary insurance amount (PIA), which is also the same rate that a person is paid if they start drawing their Social Security retirement benefits at full retirement age (FRA).

Should I Stop Filing My Weekly Unemployment Insurance Claims If I've Applied For SSDI?

Hi Larry,
I was furloughed 2 weeks after I expressed to my HR i am considering taking time away from work for health reasons or disability.
While furloughed, i Now did decide to have a disability advocate Help me & I just applied for SSDI. My question is,... should i stop my unemployment weekly filing? (Plus, DWS UI just told me that I have to start applying for 3 jobs/week... That’s contradictory to my new disability application). Should I stop filing my weekly UI claims?

Will My SSD Turn Into SSI Once I Turn 62?

Hi Larry; I turn 62 on 8/20/2020, I now receive SSD, will my SSD, turn over to SSI once I turn 62. Would appreciate your
Assistance. Sincerely

Hi,

No, your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits won't change as a result of your reaching age 62. You can continue receiving SSDI benefits until you reach full retirement age (FRA), at which time your SSDI will convert to a regular Social Security retirement benefit at the benefit rate as your SSDI.

Best, Jerry

How Much Can I Earn Without Jeopardizing My Disability Benefits?

I am 57 and have been on disability for 10 years. I am contemplating trying to get a Flexjob where I can work some hours from home, as I am in a high risk group for Covid 19. The reason I am looking to pick up some work, if I can is my husband has been furloughed since April with no end in sight and my education and work experience along with the current work conditions I have found jobs in my field on line. My question is how much can I earn without jeopardizing my disability? I'm positive it would not be a problem to re-apply, but it is a pain.
