Can A Child Get Survivor Benefits If They Recevie Food Stamps?

Can a child receive their deceased parent's Social Security if they are also receiving food stamps and Calworks?

Hi,

Food stamps and other types of public assistance have no effect on a person's entitlement to Social Security benefits, nor the rate of the benefits payable. However, receipt of Social Security benefits could effect the person's eligibility for food stamps and other public assistance payments.

Can My Grandchildren Get Benefits On My Record?

Hi Larry, I have 2 minor grandchildren and their Mother (Mt daughter) living with us and I claim the 2 children as dependents on my income taxes. They will be living with us permanently and my daughter cannot work as she is the care giver of them both. I am supporting them and will be qualified for FRA at 66 in May 2017. Can I receive extra SS benefits for my grand children's support? My daughter is divorced and there is no support from the father.

Is My Step-Grandson Eligible For Benefits On My Record?

I'm on SSDI. My stepson, his girlfriend and their child live in my home and I provide over half of their support. My stepson and the girlfriend are too old to draw benefits under my record. My stepson works but doesn't have enough income to fully support the 3 of them, the mother does not work. She is currently working on getting her GED and drivers license. Both parents are 23. My step grandson is 10 months old. He was born 3/19/16 and moved into my home on 5/13/16. Is my step grandson eligible for benefits under my disability benefits?

Why Can't My Granddaughter Get Benefits On Her Parent's Record?

Thank you for your quick response I just have one question, you said " unless one or both of her parent's are entitled to Social Security benefits on their own record, she can't get child's benefits on their records either". Can I ask why? not on her parents records, were you referring to present time or any time now and in the future?

Is My Granddaughter Eligible For Any Benefits?

I have custody of my 4 year old grand daughter. Are there any benefits I can collect to help with her living expenses. She has also just started receiving Child support from her Father, her mom is in prison for a long time. I am not sure if the child support is her income or mine, and re-portable or not. My SSDI and SSI and the CS total only $1103 per month for the two of us. I am 59 years old and not much of a work history to retire on nor do I have a spouse.

Will My Granddaughter Qualify For Social Security Benefits On My Record?

My Grand daughter has received Social Security since she was young, she is mildly mentally retarded with other issues. She had a daughter which the court took away from her and gave my husband and I full permanent custody. Would she qualify for benefits when I retire next year without adopting her??

Hi,

Unless you adopt your granddaughter, she could only qualify for child's benefits on your record if both of her natural parents are deceased or disabled.
