Can My Grandchild Get Benefits On His Deceased Grandfather's Record?

I currently receive widowers/survivors benefit. I have started the process to adopt my 3 1/2 yr old grandson. I called 800# social security & was told Maysen would be eligible for benefits & to go to my local social security office for assistance. When I inquired the agent got very upset & stated that their office will not pay out benefits because my husband is deceased & not alive to adopt him. What is the right answer?

Will My Cousin's Benefits Be Affected If Her Daughter Gets SS Benefits From Her Father's Account?

My cousin is 39 years old and has a daughter who just turned 14. My cousin has been receiving permanent SSDI payments ($667/mo) plus SSI payments ($31.02/mo). Her daughter has been receiving SSDI payments ($55/mo) based on her mother's benefits. The daughter's father, who has never been married to her mother, is currently applying for SS retirement at age 63. His minor daughter is eligible for SS benefits based on his retirement benefit.

Why Are My Son's Survivor Benefits Counted As Income?

My son recieves survivors benefits fro ssi. Why do they include this as my income for eligibility for me to put my daughter in day care. I have to prove every year that the money is spent on my sons needs not my daughters Daycare

Hi,

Well, your son's Social Security survivor benefits are his income, not yours or your daughter's. I don't know what kind of program you are referring to with regard to your daughter's daycare, but if they count your son's income, I assume it's counted as a part of your family income. That's just a guess, though.

Can My Granddaughter Receive Benefits On My Record?

I am 64 and receiving SS retirement. My husband is 55. We have recently been awarded legal guardianship of our 4 year old granddaughter. I have received conflicting information. Some information states that with legal guardianship, we can receive SS benefits for our granddaughter, and other information states she must be adopted or have disabled parents. Which is correct? I am currently using your software, which gives benefits to the child and my spouse. Thank you.
