Is It True That If I Don't File For Early Retirement Benefits Social Security Will Stop My SSI?

IM ON SSI AND SOCIAL SECURITY CALLED ME AND SAID SINCE IM 62 Y/O AND QUALIFY FOR EARLY RETIREMENT I MUST RETIRE NOW.....OR THEY WILL STOP MY SSI BENEFITS. THEY SAID IT WAS THE LAW.......IS THIS TRUE? THANK YOU

Hi. Yes. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs based benefit administered by Social Security. SSI is intended as a last resort source of support for people who are disabled, blind, or at least age 65. In order to qualify for SSI, a person must file for any other type of benefits for which they may qualify, including Social Security. So, even though your Social Security retirement benefit amount will be reduced for age if you claim them at age 62, if you fail to do so then Social Security would stop paying you SSI (https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0500510001).
