How Does The New Law Affect Me And My Husband?

I started collecting SS benefits at 66, but I am and will continue to work till I am 70 or next year 2019 (God willing enjoying health). My husband is already collecting SS (he is 73 ). How does this new law benefits me or us? Should I be collecting SS benefits from my husband's account too? or is it by law the claim of SS benefits (of spouses) upon the death of either or one ?

Hi,

It doesn't sound like the new law would have any effect on you or your husband. You're both likely getting as much as you can currently, and when one of you dies the other will likely receive the higher of your 2 benefit rates.

Best, Jerry
