Can My Wife Get Spousal Benefits When I File?

i will be 66 in september 2017 and my will be 60 can i get spousal benefit for her if I apply for my full retirement

Hi,

Unless your wife has an eligible child in her care, she can't get spousal benefits until she is at least age 62. And, she will only be eligible for spousal benefits if 50% of your full retirement age rate is higher than her own full retirement age rate.

You and your wife should strongly consider using the maximization software available on this website in order to determine your best overall filing strategy.

Best, Jerry
