Am I Eligible To Receive Benefits?

I am 62 not retired and not working, just married My husband who is retired and collecting his retirement for the past 10 years. I would like to know if I am eligible to received benefits or if his benefits will increase do the fact I am not working.

Hi,

Neither you or your husband would likely be eligible for spousal benefits on the other's record until you've been married for at least a year, unless you meet one of the exceptions (https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/3752/What-are-the-ma...). And, neither of you will be eligible for spousal benefits unless one of you has a full retirement age benefit rate (PIA) that is more than twice as much as the other.

Your husband's benefit amount won't increase simply because he married and you aren't working. Assuming that he receives benefits on his own record, his benefit rate is based on his earnings history, and his marital status is irrelevant.
