Does The Amount In My Award Letter Include The Upcoming COLA?

Hi Larry, I will receive my first SS check in the middle of February 2018.That check will be for January. I am 63 years old. Do you think the amount they said I would receive included the COLA for 2018? Or will I actually receive more once that amount is announced in mid to late October?

Hi,

No, the benefit rates stated in award letters issued prior to the announcement of a COLA do not include projected future COLAs. However, your actual benefit rate when you start receiving it in February will include the upcoming COLA, assuming that there is one.

Best, Jerry
