Will My Daughter's Survivor Benefits Affect Her SNAP Or Medicaid?

Hi Larry,

My daughters father was violently murdered 2 weeks ago. She is on Medicaid and we receive SNAP in Texas. I went to file for Survivor Benefits at the local social security office and was suprised at the amount she will start to receive monthly. I was wondering if this new monthly income will affect her medicaid or SNAP? Thank you for your time.

Hi,

Social Security is my only area of expertise, so I can't really answer your question. However, both the Medicaid and SNAP programs are needs based, so I would assume that an increase in the recipient's income may affect their eligibility or benefit levels accordingly.

Best, Jerry
