Why Did My SSI Payments Stop?

I had been on SSI for about 8 yes due to several different disabilities and they just get worse and I got married at 55 to a woman who has MS and she ad started to receive SSD benefits and when we told them they stripped me of my SSI ..... She only gets 1300 a month so why can't I get mine back and why did they take it from me

Hi,

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs based program funded by general tax revenues, not Social Security taxes. It is intended as a last resort source of income for disabled, blind and aged individuals who have little or no means of support. If an individual is married and their spouse has income in excess of the SSI threshold, that can cause the person to be or become ineligible for SSI payments. It sounds like this is what happened in your case.

For more information about the eligibility requirements for SSI, refer to the following reference: https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/.

Best, Jerry
