Why Did My Disability Benefits Stop?

My husband and I are separated ,and have been for three years.. my disability check has stopped because he has land with my name on it. I have been drawing for years 13at least .can this be?

Hi,

Land ownership wouldn't have any effect on Social Security disability benefits, so I assume that you must have been receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is a needs based program, and you generally can't qualify for SSI payments if you own resources of more than $2,000. I don't know enough about your situation to know if that's what caused your benefits to stop, though, so you should check with Social Security for an explanation and potentially to file an appeal of their decision to stop your benefits.

Best, Jerry
