When Should My Wife File For Spousal Benefits?

My wife took her SS retirement at 62. Her b-day is 01/17/1948 She is 69. I am 62 ,and plan to retire at 66 . My b-day12/04/1954 When should she file for spousal benefits?

Hi,

Assuming that she's eligible (https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/3754/What-is-the-eli...), your wife would want to file for spousal benefits effective with the same month that you choose to start your benefits. You may want to run the maximization software available on this website in order to be sure that you choose the best filing strategy.

Best, Jerry
