What Options Do We Have To Maximize Our Payments?

My wife took early retirement benefits at 62 (DOB 6/11/54). I plan to retire at full retirement age 66 on 8/21/2018 but I am flexible with this timing. What options do we have to maximize our retirement payments?

Hi,

It sounds like your best option would likely be to file for spousal benefits only on your wife's record at age 66, and then switch to your own record at age 70. But, the best strategy depends in part on your and your wife's relative benefit rates and other factors. You may want to run the maximization software available on this website in order to make sure that you choose the best strategy.

Best, Jerry
