Is It Possible For My Wife To Collect On My Record When I Retire?

My wife started to collect her ss at 62. Is it possible for her to collect off mine when I retire at 66 (probably 70)? A friend's wife told us she was collecting off of her husband because he made more and so she got more.

Hi,

Yes, it's possible. In order for your wife to qualify for additional benefits as a spouse on your record when you start drawing, 50% of your full retirement age rate (PIA) must be higher than her own PIA.

You may want to consider running the maximization software available on this website in order to determine the best filing strategy for you and your wife.

Best, Jerry
