Can I Work Part-Time If I've Filed For Disability Benefits?

i had a brain tumor removed and mini strokes in august 2015 , i was out of leave for 5 months , from june2015 to dec2015 so when i went back to work i was a cashier at our local walmart but i felt i couldnt remember the handling the money , so i moved to the fitting room , and i ended getting fired in nov 2016 , they fired because i left someone in the fitting room but i had a doctor's note saying i needed to sit down every hour for 5 min , so i ended getting unemployment , which just now ran out, but i did apply for disbility on dec 1st .. so they are still deciding , but i was wondering if i would be able to work part time , my upper right leg is partially paralyzed , have balance issues , connective issues, plus sciatic nerve pain, and macular hemorrhage in my right eye ..

Hi,

I'm very sorry to hear about all of your health problems.

You should probably contact Social Security to find out if they're still working on your claim, and if there is anything you can do to expedite the process. With regard to work, you can generally work and earn up to $1,170 per month without jeopardizing your claim for disability benefits, or the payment of your disability benefits if your claim is approved. If you do work, be sure to let Social Security know.

Best, Jerry
