Can I Qualify For Disability Benefits?

Hi Larry, can I qualify for SS Disability for either of these two health issues: 1. had quadruple by pass 15 years ago, I am doing fair with that. 2. I just found out I prostate cancer, not too serious yet. I just retired at the age of 60. thanks.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your health problems.

In order to qualify for Social Security disability benefits, your impairment(s) must be severe enough to prevent you from doing any type of substantial gainful work. It doesn't cost anything to file a claim and get a formal determination, so you should probably go ahead and apply if you think that you may qualify (https://www.ssa.gov/disabilityssi/).

Best, Jerry
